What are my Login Details?

The below information details the types of passwords that may be required when accessing any Webcentral service. Account / Admin Level Console From within the Admin level of the Console, you can manage all of your domains, services, billing and account contact details. Your account / admin level details should NOT be provided to any unauthorised users in your office or home. Domain Level Console The Domain level login of the Console limits you to making changes to that specific domain name alone. This is the login to use if you want to manage just one domain, give access to your web designer/developer or another person for a specific purpose. Billing and contact information cannot be accessed or edited using this login. Email Account Your email password is specific to a single email account. Your password is generally used to access the email account via an email client such as Outlook, mobile phones or webmail service. FTP Password Your FTP password provides direct access to a hosted domain server. It allows for the transfer of web pages, graphics and files via FTP (File Transfer Protocol) to the web hosting server, which are generally made available for viewing over the internet. Domain Password Your domain password is different to your domain level login information. This password allows for the transfer of a domain name between registrars or to change ownership of a domain name. The domain password is sometimes known as an Auth code, Auth info code, EPP code/password or domain transfer password. Unless you have a specific requirement to do so, all passwords should only be made available to those entrusted to make modifications to your domain, and should always be changed after any official work has been completed.

Password security

Below are some tips to help you keep your passwords safe and secure: Don't use easy to guess passwords Many users make the mistake of using very simple passwords. Using the name of your partner, child, or pet, possibly followed by a 0, 1 or 11 is very common. Hackers can use software that runs through dictionary words and names to quickly crack your password. Adding just one capital letter, one asterisk or special character into your password greatly decreases your chances of becoming a victim of password hacking. Another popular method of increasing the security on a password is to use two unrelated words together with a number placed in the middle. Keep your computer protected Another very common method of obtaining passwords is for hackers to install keystroke logging software onto your computer. This software records what password details you are typing on your keyboard and transmits the information back to the malicious user. If you save any passwords on your computer, this also can be scanned and transmitted back to a malicious user who has installed malware on your machine. Make sure to regularly scan your computer for viruses and malware and to keep your security software up to date. Don't use the same password everywhere Many people use the same password for their email, Facebook, Instagram and other online accounts. This is very dangerous, as the compromise of one account means a compromise to them all. Not all services have the same level of security, so hackers will typically hack a password in one place that isn't very secure, then attempt to use that same password elsewhere. Make sure to use unique passwords for different services.

Multi-Factor Authentication Guide

At Webcentral, we are committed to protecting your data and recognize that the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of your information are essential to your business. With this in mind, we're excited to announce the availability of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for Console account access. What is MFA? MFA is a powerful tool for boosting login security and protecting your business and data from security threats. When enabled, it requires identity verification by providing two or more types of evidence (or 'factors') to log in to the Console. One factor is something you know, like your username and password. Additional factors involve methods you have on hand, such as an authenticator app or a security key. How do I enable or disable MFA for my account? At Webcentral, MFA is an optional feature that can be activated directly from your account: 1. Login to your account. 2. Go to the "My Account" page and select "Security" on the left hand side. 3. Scroll down and click "enable" 4. You will then be prompted download an MFA app on a device of your choosing (mobile or tablet). We recommend Authy, Duo Mobile, Last Pass Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator. 5. Once you have downloaded an MFA app on your device, the app will ask you to 'Add an Account' and 'Scan a QR Code'. 6. After scanning the QR code in the app on your device, you will be presented with a token code. Please type this into Console MFA prompt at the bottom of the pop-up labelled 'Type your MFA code below'. What to do if I lose or otherwise can't access my MFA device Please contact our support team who will be happy to assist in enabling or disabling MFA. You will need to know your passphrase. What happens if I put in the wrong MFA code when I try to log in? If the wrong MFA code is inputted it's not a problem - you can try again. However if our system detects 3 incorrect attempts, this usually means someone is trying to gain unauthorised access to your account. If this happens, we will automatically lock your account. You will need to unlock your account via our support team. What if my question wasn't answered above? Not a problem - get in touch with us and our team will be happy to answer any other MFA related questions you have.
